Some of the most magnificent landmarks and wonders of the world are so majestic, that they have inspired copies of their magnificence being made in different parts of the world. Although most of these copies exist in our easily impressed neighbour China, other countries participate in creating these replicas of famous landmarks from global history.
US Capitol
After copying major World Wonders like the Sphinx, the Eiffel Tower, and the Roman Colosseum, do you think China would stop short of creating a replica of the US Capitol? No sir! Full-scale replicas of the U.S. Capitol building have been constructed in the cities of Wuxi and Fuyang.
Paris
China’s obsession with Paris has gone to this extent that they have constructed their very Little Paris. Yes, that’s the name of the city in China, where if you step foot you will wonder how you got transferred overseas all the way to this Parisian square, complete with the Eiffel Tower looming in the distance, and the Arc de Triomphe and the fountain in the garden of the Palace of Versailles. Don’t worry, you’ve merely stumbled upon China’s obsession with replicating everything awesome about the Western civilization.
Historic Centre Of Florence
The Historic Centre of Florence, which has been declared as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, is the inspiration behind the shopping destination in Wuqing, China, which goes by the name Florentia Village, complete with Florentine arcades, a grand canal, and bridges.
Leaning Tower of Pisa
China is not the only country who is going around replicating famous European monuments. USA jumped on to this bandwagon when they constructed the Leaning Tower of Niles, which is a halfsized replica of the Leaning Tower of Pisa; complete with the iconic slant.
London’s Tower Bridge
Venture into the city of Suzhou in East China and marvel upon the Tower Bridge which is an exact copy of the iconic one in London. However it’s not an exact copy of the iconic one in London; the Chinese model has twice as many towers, but lacks the drawbridge mechanism.
Opera House & Harbour Bridge
We are starting to think that instead of wasting all your money in buying tickets for all over the globe for a world tour, why not just buy a one-way ticket to China, and see all the iconic masterpieces in one country itself. A new addition on China’s list of obsession is Australia; which is why you’ll see replicas of both the Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera House in Beijing World Park.
Rome Colosseum
China does it again, by taking another important icon of European history – the Roman Colosseum. What used to be a fighting arena in Central Rome during the time of titans such as Julius Caesar is now the inspiration for the Chinese knock-off at Fisherman’s Wharf, a theme park in Macau.
Florida Kennedy Space Centre
Florida’s Kennedy Space Centre is known in the pages of rocket science history for being the launchpad for every American mission in space. The general consensus that there can definitely be more than one space shuttle launcher lying around is actually wrong. Forgotten in the pages of history lies the West Coast Shuttle Centre in Vandenburg Air Force Base in California, which sits desolate now because of the lack of activity happening here.
The Great Sphinx
Taking a trip back to ancient Egypt once more, the Great Sphinx of Giza has also come up in China’s achievements in most number of believable replicas. This full-scale replica can easily fool anyone, so be careful when you believe a Chinese guy showing you a picture of him standing next to the Sphinx. Chances are, that it was not Egypt that he visited, but only a film studio outside of Shijiazhuang in Hebei Province
Tajmahal
Although not an exact replica, the Taj Mahal that we Indians so proudly boast about has been emulated in the construction commissioned by filmmaker Ahsanullah Moni back in 1980 in our neighbouring Bangladesh. The replica is to scale, and needed an overwhelming shipment of white marble to be brought in to Bangladesh from all over the world.
Karnak Temple
It turns out that the Chinese people are big fans of all things Egyptian as well. And especially the famous Karnak Temple, which remains the largest religious building ever constructed. This 2000 year old temple has found a younger doppelganger in the replica that China constructed at the abandoned Wanguo park in Wuhan, Hubei province.
