In a country like India, where millions of people fall below poverty line, it is frowned upon for a politician to be wealthy. Many politicians belonging to various parties who have declared assets in the recent past shows a rise in the millionaire politicians in the country. Here is a list of India's richest politicians, according to a Times of India report:

Mahendra Prasad\r\nJanata Dal (United) leader Mahendra Prasad is the richest Indian politician, according to a TOI report. His total assets are worth Rs 692 crore. The Bihar Member of Parliament (MP) has movable assets worth Rs 664 crore while the immovable property amounts to Rs. 28 crore.

Vijay Mallya\r\nIndustrialist and a member of parliament, Vijay Mallya is the second richest politician with assets worth Rs 615 crore. The liquor baron is a Rajya Sabha member, elected as an independent candidate from his home state, Karnataka.

Jaya Bachchan\r\nJaya Bachchan, a Samajwadi Party\'s Member of Parliament, representing the Upper House has assets worth Rs. 484 crore. The immovable assets of the Indian actress are worth Rs 140 crore while her movable assets are worth Rs 344 crore.
